HOW OUR STORY STARTED
"It was during 2007 that I was introduced to Dr. Thandi Ndlovu through a friend of hers at Ruimsig Golf Club. After the introduction I hounded her to join me for a breakfast to discuss the possibility of her joining the Board of a young Asset Finance Company. After weeks of trying to arrange this, we eventually had a breakfast at a shopping centre in the south of Johannesburg. It was one of those meetings which resulted in an immediate connection between two people and we both instantly knew that we would create a strong business and personal bond. Dr. Thandi's response to my asking her to join the Board of this relatively new company was without hesitation positive. We mulled the case of how we should compensate her for her services, to
which she responded that she was not joining the Board of the company for compensation, but that we should rather donate the funds, we were prepared to spend, to a worthwhile cause. After a few more meetings and throwing some ideas around, we heard about a house in Krugersdorp which houses 14 young kids and was in desperate need of renovation and furnishing, which was the first project that we undertook. This created the thought that company should make donations to a fund that would support young under priviledged kids. That was how the well-known and extremely positive Dr. Thandi Ndlovu Children's Foundation was born." - Koos van Ettinger
