Khanyi Chaba - Trustee

Khanyi Chaba is currently the Head of Sustainability at Old Mutual Emerging Markets. Her passion for community upliftment started in her early days of her career in the construction industry. She served as a Chairperson of South African Women in Construction (SAWIC) and as a Board member of Construction Industry Development Board. She is the Deputy Chairperson of the Soweto Plough Back Project.

Khanyi has been fostering and mentoring children from difficult backgrounds and providing support for their educational needs. She is involved with the Shoshana Foundation raising funds for single mothers and child headed households. She introduced the Dr Thandi Ndlovu Foundation to her project where is is involved with young people who have with huge potential but lacking financial backing to further their education.

Her endeavours for community work were ultimately realised when she was voted the SABC Lebone Woman of the Year Award in 1998. Her love for adventure and sports has seen her achieve 7 medals in Comrades Marathon, 8 medals in Two Oceans Marathon, Great Wall of China Marathon and Summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in 2008.

In 2019, as part of the Summit For Hope Campaign, Ms Chaba summitted Mount Elbrus, in Russia, the highest mountain in Europe. Her self funded and selfless climb in add of the students was a huge blessing and gift to the foundation.
